The Art of Self-Love

While self-acceptance may come easy for some, self love is totally different. In fact, it can be hard to do but self love is necessary for every individual, especially women. Life demands us to always be “on.” By that I mean, you may feel so much pressure to show up for others, do things for other people, be so career focused, be the best partner for your significant other, etc. Today’s society can feel a bit too much. However, practicing self love may just be calling you to slow down, or better yet, retreat. The art of self love is different for every woman. It just means doing things that are going to benefit you so you can feel whole again. If you feel like you are burned out or feel like the whole world rests on your shoulders, here are few acts of self love that you can practice so you can feel more complete:

Learning to say “No”

Oftentimes we say “yes” to people when deep down we really want to say “no”.  Saying “no” is a form of creating healthy boundaries. Those that love you will respect those boundaries. You have a right to protect your energy. Sometimes it’s best to take a rain check on those commitments when you are not in the mood. So if you feel like staying in on a Friday night rather than going out with your friends, tell them.

Forgiving Yourself

Life is filled with ups and downs. We all make mistakes. You might find yourself mulling over past hurts. Forgiving yourself for making poor choices or not following your intuition in circumstances is a great step towards loving yourself. When you do you will begin to feel lighter as all those burdens are lifted off of you.

Getting More Rest

Sometimes loving yourself means going to bed early. There’s nothing wrong with loving the work you do. However, it’s important to listen to your body when it’s crying out for a good nap. Even just going to bed early by an extra hour is enough.

Spending Time In Nature

Staying indoors for too long? Unplug from technology for at least an hour and go outside! Soak in all that vitamin D from the sun. Lie in the grass. If you can, find a lake and play in the water. Being in nature does wonders to your mind, body, and soul. You will feel revived! Nature helps you feel connected with yourself on a deep level.

This list will help you to think about how you can include acts of self love into your daily life. You deserve to feel like your best self.  So take time to relax and rejuvenate your lovely self.
