Virtual Game Night Ideas

Written By: Girl Tyler

Even though social distancing has made it more difficult to link up with your crew, you can keep your circles tight by bringing everyone together for a game night. Choose a convenient video app like Google Hangouts, Zoom, or Houseparty. Divide your friends into two teams or play individually if your group has less than five people. You can even raise the stakes with a friendly wager. Grab some snacks and keep the libations flowing with these hilarious games.

MEME THE NIGHT AWAY

This game doesn’t require teams. Before your virtual meetup, email your guests 10 popular internet memes and gifs. Each person is tasked with writing a hilarious caption to correspond with each image. Collect all of the responses. On game night, share your screen with the images then read the responses aloud. The group can vote on which ones are the funniest. The person with the most votes wins.

FINISH THE LYRIC

This one is perfect for music heads. Come up with a playlist of popular music across various genres. Divide the group into two teams or just play as individuals. Play a :05-:10 second snippet then stop the song. The player must finish the lyrics, word for word. Each song is worth five points. When in doubt, the player can enlist their group to finish it for them, but they will have to forfeit two points.

CHARADES

This is an old school favorite that never goes out of style. All you need is a sense of humor, a flexible imagination, and maybe some acting chops. Utilize the private chat function in the app and send actions for each player to perform. Each team has 30 seconds to guess the right word or phrase. The team with the most correct guesses wins.

JEOPARDY

Pop culture. Politics. Black history. You name it. Create your own categories and questions. Share your screen to show corresponding images and dollar amounts for each question. This game can be played individually. No cheating! For every incorrect answer, the player loses the exact dollar amount valued for the question.
