Things We Miss About 106&Park

Things We Miss About 106&Park

Throwback Thursday always makes us a little nostalgic. This week is no different. While setting up my workout playlist this morning, I couldn’t help but think: Remember 106 & Park? Gone are the days of music countdowns and music video specials. 106 & Park had a great way of bringing the community together. The surprise guests, the hosts–shoutout to AJ and Free! Rocsi & Terrence J too–and the live performances were everything. Not to mention it was was a platform that gave so many new artists opportunities, that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. Ahh the good old days. Here are six things we miss about 106 & Park.

The Top Ten Countdown

The top ten countdown was such a fun concept. It helped us learn so much about the artists, took us behind the scenes for some of our favorite videos, and let us get involved on the voting process. Who else remembers texting a bunch of times to get their favorite video to that number one spot?

The Hosts

Whether you were team Rocsi and Terrence, or Team AJ & Free, 106 & Park did a great job of choosing great hosts. There chemistry kept us watching, and they always had great questions to ask the hosts. Both sets of hosts ended up doing great things after leaving the show, and it was great to watch them do their thing.

The Celebrity Guests

106 & Park was the show to be on when it was on air. It was a space for black celebs to showcase their work, and for fans to get their questions answered. You never knew what you were going to get. Remember when Janet Jackson fed strawberries to Terrence J? Or when Bow Wow and Tyra Banks ended up kissing on live TV?

The Live Performances

Many artists got their big break on the 106&Park stage. Everyday it was like getting a free concert in your living room. Five days a week you could get energy packed performances from superstars. Some shows were more memorable than others, like Destiny’s Child’s performance of Soldier (Hey Michelle!).

The Style

106 & Park was a show that lasted for 14 years, so it went through its’ own style revolution. You could always depend on the hosts to showcase the newest hair trend, or fashion moment. Also the celebrity guests made sure to stand out whenever they came by, some succeeding while others failing terribly.
