With the weather breaking, it’s time to ditch the old dinner and a movie date and head outside. Dates nights are always difficult to plan whether it’s your first one and you’re still getting to know your potential new bae, or you’ve been married for years and are looking for something new and exciting to do. Nostalgia always puts everyone in a good mood, so here are some 90’s themed date night ideas to spice up your love life.
1. Head over to the Roller Skating Rink
Roller skating has to be one of the best date night ideas ever. Many of us haven’t skated in years so both you and your date will be outside of your comfort zone while adding in a little exercise. Not to mention, skating always brings back great memories. If you have an outdoor rink in your city, take the opportunity to skate under the night sky and city lights. Or if you’re a fan of the indoor rink, that’s cool too. Whichever you do, have fun with it! Don’t be scared to dance battle it out on the rink either!
2. Speaking of battles…Go head to head with some old computer or video games.
Yes, we mean a date night to the arcade! I don’t know about y’all, but this was one of the first dates us 90’s kids went on. You can take it old school and battle it out with a game of Pac-man or skee ball or have a good time shooting hoops and racing cars. Nothing beats some friendly competition. Arcades not really your thing? That’s fine. Try visiting a local game store with your date and see what you can find. Many game stores carry older versions of games like Rollercoaster Tycoon, Sim City, and Mario Kart at an affordable price.
3. Jam out to a Flashback Friday Night
So you know #throwbackthursday and #flashbackfriday go beyond Instagram right? Some of my favorite bars and nightclubs have a throwback night where they will play old school music to get you in the mood. There are even some cover bands who solely play 90’s music. If you’re really looking for a nostalgic date night, grab your boo and head to the next throwback event in your city. Have your throwback song requests on deck too!
4. Take a trip to a Drive-In movie
Okay so this one isn’t exclusively a 90’s date but it does have that nostalgic feeling that you’re looking for. Drive-In movies are a great for a relaxing date night. Grab your snacks, find a good parking spot, and you’re good to go. To take your date to the next level, try setting up a blanket in the back of a truck. Poetic Justice anyone?
