Weekly Wrap-Up: FLOTUS is Flawless

Is it just me or did this week fly by?! I’m not complaining though because it was definitely one for the books with some of those Fall TV debuts we mentioned airing to our First Lady gracing not one, but two October magazine covers. Feeling all the melanin magic on screen, glossy pages, and even on an unexpected runway. Check it out!

Queen Sugar

I really hoped you listened to us when we mentioned this on the list of Fall TV shows you need to watch. This week Queen Sugar aired and had everyone in their black feelings. No spoilers so you can keep reading if you haven’t watched–giving you major side eye if you didn’t though. The premiere episodes of Queen Sugar, directed by Ava Duvernay, gracefully depicted the beautiful complexities of the black family in a way that only Duvernay can do. I, along with everyone else watching on Twitter, were shedding real tears after the first night. Oh and I did mention there’s some eye candy too? Hey, Ralph Angel. Just go watch and join us next week. Cool?

Flotus Slays on Cover of Essence and InStyle Magazine

Everyday we get closer to this beautiful black first family leaving the White House and I’m just not ready. Because our First Lady is so classy though, she made sure to leave us with a parting gift. First, her Instyle cover–which she slays by the way in a teal, one shoulder dress–and a featured article about what’s next, her passion, and of course her fashion.

Your first interaction with people is what they see. So you can’t take it for granted.” ~ Michelle Obama, InStyle

But, it was Michelle’s Essence cover and feature that had us all looking on in admiration at our President & First Lady and their continued display of genuine black love. Our favorite quote:

I think when it comes to Black kids, it means something for them to have spent most of their life seeing the family in the White House look like them. … It matters.” – Michelle Obama, Essence

That it does.

#YeezySeason4: Here for it? Yay or Nay?

So last weekend Kanye caused quite the stir when a casting call for Yeezy Season 4 was released. Why the buzz? Well, it called for “multiracial women only”. With nobody being exactly sure what that meant, most people took it as a slight against black women. Black Twitter was on fire, there were even protestors outside the casting call making their disapproval known. The actual fashion though, portrayed a different site with a gorgeous display of beautiful black women in all shades and rows of natural hair. The Yeezy Season 4 collection, itself…we’ll let you  be the judge.
