SYTYCD: The Next Generation

So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation kicked off their live shows last week and three of the most talented young black dancers are competing for our votes. These kids are not only talented, but they’re inspirational and totally adorable. Here’s why we can’t stop obsessing over these kids.

Kida Burns

You probably recognize this kid from Instagram, or maybe his recent performance with Usher at the BET Awards. Either way, you know he kills it every time! It’s hard to believe he’s only 14. In case you missed his first performance with Fik-Shun on SYTYCD, here’s a recap. It was super lit!

Tahani Anderson

This little ball of energy is one of the best hip hop dancers I’ve seen in a while. She’s so precise and hard-hitting with her dancing, that I wouldn’t be surprised if she won it all. Now every time I hear this O.T. Genesis song, I can’t help but think of this dance:

Jordan Wandick

Jordan is the only non-hip hop dancer in the bunch and she definitely holds her own. She came to the show from Bakersfield with a story that many of us can relate to. Her family couldn’t really afford dance, so she took classes when she could and practiced on her own otherwise. Now she’s dancing on the big stage. Her story is inspirational to all kids from tough circumstances looking to follow their dreams, but more importantly, she’s showing young black girls that they can be themselves and still succeed in a white-dominated dance world.

These young black dancers make up a third of the total contestants. They are currently killing the competition but we have to make sure we’re supporting our own by voting. #BlackPeopleAreMagic
